About Us | Cody Anderson Memorial Fund

Help us honor his memory

CodyAtSchool

Hello Friends,

Thank you for such a great showing of support and true community, even though we all live and work in so many different areas.

As we have discussed with many of you, we are starting the Cody Anderson Scholarship Fund, to help honor Cody's life and to help create many wonderful opportunities out of this tragic accident. The Cody Anderson Scholarship Fund will be a fund managed by Cody's mom, Victoria Kuhl. The goal of this scholarship is to assist in covering the educational costs at the farm associated with improving our elementary and sending students onto high school and college. Selva Negra runs a private elementary school with 90 students, which Cody attended. Cody grew up at the farm and many of his childhood friends are now staff at Selva Negra with jobs like foreman of construction and head of security. Supporting the children of Selva Negra, supports the circle of friends Cody had as a child, plus their children.

Each year students from the farm will have the opportunity to apply for scholarships. The students will be selected based on teacher recommendations and a written essay. Those that earn the scholarship will be tracked and their bios, goals, and achievements will be shared on an annual basis with all supporters.

Example of expenses associated with schooling in Nicaragua are:

  • School supplies per elementary student annually is $50 a year.
  • A teacher's annual salary at our elementary school is $3500.
  • Annual private high school tuition is $600 (public schools are overcrowded and poorly ran).
  • Annual local university tuition is $750.

Since this program is new, we will continue to work out all the details as we go, at this point we just all know we need to turn something bad into something good and positive. Wouldn't it be great, if ten years from now we could say the "Cody Anderson Scholarship Fund is currently responsible for funding two additional teachers at the elementary school, 50 children in grades 7-12, ten young adults in college, and eight working graduates from the program." This is the type of impact and change we can contribute to and that will make a life long difference for so many families.

Contributions can be made payable to "Victoria Kuhl" and sent to:

  • US$ payments to: Victoria Kuhl, JavaVino, 579 N Highland Ave, Atlanta, GA 30307
  • Nicaragua payments to: Victoria Kuhl, Selva Negra, Km 140, Carr. Matagalpa-Jinotega, Nicaragua
  • PayPal payment to: codyfund@selvanegra.com

Thanks for your support and kindness,
