Other Events
Selva Negra's dedication towards its employees not only include providing excellent housing, schooling and nutrition, but also many of the principles to encourage employee gratification and empowerment. Many of the coffee pickers are migrant pickers who move from region to region based on where the coffee is currently ripe. When crops are high yielding, the efforts that Selva Negra makes, ensures the return of the previous year's migrant workers, thus not loosing crop to the lack of help. Part of these efforts include events which are hosted throughout the year. |

Some of these events include:
Children's birthday parties - at the end of every month, the teachers make a list of children whose birthday falls on that month. A Party is hosted with a pinata, cakes and each birthday child receives a present. A larger birthday party is held at the end of the school year for those children whose birthday falls on the school brake.
End of the harvest party - at the end of the harvest Selva Negra hosts a big lunch for everybody, usually about 500 people. During the lunch awards are given, following is a set of award examples:
1.-The best coffee picker - this is a good quality picker who also picked a lot of coffee.
2.-Migrant worker award - the people from outside who came from the beginning to the end of the picking season receive an award. Most of the migrant workers leave as soon as the picking gets hard, and some come in only for the time where there is the most harvest.
3.- Women's recognition - special recognition to women who picked lots of good coffee on their own. A lot of the picking is done in family groups, so the woman is often an additional picker under the husband's group. This recognition is made to honor those women who choose to earn their own salary.
Mother's and Father's day - These are celebrated by the children in the school to honor their mothers and fathers.
Graduation Party - A graduation party is hosted at the end of the school year, for both the children and the adult education program.
Independence day - A celebration with parades all over the housing area as well as at the resort.
Baseball Team celebration - When they win the season a big celebration party is given, with a big luncheon at the farm. The players are honored, their families and of course the workers of the farm all get to take place in the celebration.
School "Los Pipitos" - Selva Negra school participates with School Los Pipitos, which is a school of disable children from Matagalpa and Esteli, we visit them at their school ad they come to Selva Negra as well, the students exchange various activities.
