 A tour through Selva Negra's stables is much more than going to an elaborate petting zoo. It is a fun and educational experience for young and old alike. Here you can learn about the use of animal manure as a source to produce methane gas, as well as the use of worms to assist the production of organic fertilizer.
   The stables house a variety of animals including:
  a) Cattle
b) Pigs
c) Horses
d) Burros
e) Rabbits, and
f) Chickens
 

The stables ecological efforts:

Selva Negra prides itself with the great lenghts which it goes through to ensure that all the processes are performed in the most ecological means possible. A couple of example of these efforts are:

  • The use of the manure of the stable animals to produce methane gas. The manure from cows and pigs is collected and deposited in a bio-digestor tank where methane gas is generated and used for cooking.
  • The breeding of California and African which are used to convert coffee bi-products into compost to be later utilized as fertilizer for the ecological coffee produced in the Selva Negra Coffee Estate.

Everyday fresh products produced by the stables are consumed both at the resort's reataurant and the farm's kitchens. This provides the resort with the freshest and most ecologically minded products.
