Over the past years Eddy Kuhl has become more than just a well-known Nicaraguan author he has become a historian of the Matagalpa region and Nicaragua in general. His books center on different historical facts about Nicaragua, specially the Matagalpa region, he has documented the history of this place through interviews of many of its eldest residents and through continual research of its fascinating legends. For his first book, Matagalpa y sus gentes, Eddy even has a special section at the end of the book that lists the name of every person that he interviewed for the book along with their age when he interviewed them. This section of the book is a testament to Eddy's efforts as caretaker of Matagalpa's history. He also published the history of coffee in Nicaragua, and the biography of one of its best poets. In addition to being an author, he has also produced a CD of traditional Matagalpan music. As part of his music project, Eddy traveled around Matagalpa searching for musicians that could still play traditional Matagalpan songs with traditional instruments. Once he had found enough musicians with an interest in his project he brought them all together at a recording studio to bring this traditional music back to life for enjoyment by many who had probably forgotten how the traditional music sounded. Eddy is a true historian who cares about all facets of Matagalpan history and this history is recorded in both written form as well as in music. |
