We're very proud to announce that we've received the 2007 SCAA's Sustainability Award. This award recognizes specialty coffee companies that have created innovative projects to expand sustainability within the coffee world while inspiring others to initiate similar endeavors. We received this award for our efforts in ensuring the proper usage and/or disposal of the coffee by-products, including, but not limited to the coffee wastewater, pulp, and husk. One of our major accomplishments is the generation of methane gas from the coffee wastewater, a project dating back to 1990. Aside from generating gas from this wastewater, we also use cattle manure and human waste to generate methane gas. We produce over 4 million pounds of compost; one of the major inputs into this compost is the coffee pulp.
