Sustainable Award - Selva Negra was presented with an honorable Sustainability Award thanks to the work done on the ecological toilets currently in operation throughout the farm. These toilets where highlighted and discussed in the 2008 1st Quarter Newsletter and consists of a system which generates methane gas out of human waste and also incorporates an underground irrigation system.

Educational Session - Mausi had an opportunity to present at the Mineapolis SCAA conference in May 2008. Her presentation focused on greening your coffee plantation and covered such topics as recycling and utilizing all the coffee by-products generated from the coffee processing. She also discussed the compost production, organic laboratory where the farm studies natural pest and weed control options.
