"Women Growing Coffee Rich in History and Farming for the Future"

Women play an important role in Central American communities and in many ways are the backbones of society. Women in coffee are mothers, sisters, daughters, community leaders and entrepreneurs. Many women work in coffee but few actually run or manage the farms. This quarter, Allegro is honored to tell the story of four amazing female coffee farmers with whom we've partnered with for well over a decade:

Mausi Kuhl
Mausi and Eddy bought Selva Negra in 1975. Since then Mausi has directly run the farm. She is proud of the changes she sees in the workers as they obtain the benefits of working on the farm and in turn seeing the farm benefit. Organic Nicaragua Selva Negra.

Merling Preza
Merling Preza is the General Manager of PRODECOOP in Nicaragua and is responsible for the activities and prosperity of the co-op. Her family heritage is steeped in coffee history. Organic Nicaragua Canta Gallo.

Silvia Larin De Cuenca
Silvia Larin De Cuenca grew up with coffee farms in Juayua, El Salvador. A commitment to consistent processing from the farm, the mill and the cup quality produced are the traditions of the Larin family that Sylvia strives to uphold. El Salvador Shangi-La Pacamara.

Crintina De Gonzales
Mia Cristina De Gonzales has been working in coffee since 1978. She takes pride in her ability to provide the workers with a good salary, to protect the ecology and to maintain the quality of her coffee. Guatemalan Antigua El Valle.
