The sustainable farm tour is conducted on a mini-bus and will take you throughout the farm and many of its sustainable efforts. The tours vary in length (average of 1 1/2 hours) and depth of materials covered based on the involvement of the passengers, but the following will give you a brief idea of some of the areas that might be covered in the tour.
- Eco Lodge - the history of the lodge is discussed as well as the architectural style and the use of the small lake as a reservoir for the hydraulic turbine.
- Organic Laboratory - passing by the organic laboratory you will learn about some of the organic weed and pest control methods.
- Cows/Chickens - The tour will drive past the chickens, showing the tour the two types of chickens. The layers and the broilers. The chickens are used at the restaurant, the kitchen for the workers of the farm and for sale, same with the eggs.
- Biogas System - While the cows are kept at the stable for milking their manure is collected. Using the manure the methane gas is made which is used in the worker's kitchen.
- Coffee Plantation - you will be able to view the coffee up close as the tour weaves around some of the plantation. Depending on the season you may see ripe cherries on the trees.
- Coffee Nursery Even the soil that is used in the bags to plant the coffee seeds is special. It is the result of treated cow manure and coffee husk with Californian worms.
- Compost and Fertilizers - the excess of the cattle biogas system is used as fertilizer on the coffee plantation. Compost bins and vermiculture combine to generate more than 4 million lbs of compost a year.
- Vegetables - swing by the vegetable greenhouses where much of the fertilizer is used to produce more than half of the restaurant's menu.
- Shaded Coffee Plantation - The drive continues around the plantation so the tour can see the three different lawyers of shade trees for the coffee. How the trees provide nutrients, preserve shade and serve for housing to a lot of birds and other animals.
- Worker's complex - the tour will take you by the farm worker's complex where you will see the school, library, clinic, kitchen as well as worker's lodging and children's park.
